How to Change Currency on Amazon (UK Guide)
If you're shopping on Amazon and notice prices showing in euros, US dollars or another foreign currency, it can be confusing—especially if you’re trying to compare costs or avoid conversion fees. Amazon allows users to change the display currency in certain cases, particularly when browsing international Amazon marketplaces like Amazon.com or Amazon.de. Here's how to change your currency settings whether you're shopping on Amazon UK or abroad.
When Do You Need to Change Currency on Amazon?
Changing currency is useful when:
You’re shopping on an Amazon international site (like .com or .de)
You want to view prices in GBP for clarity
You’re comparing prices across countries and want consistent currency
You’re using a multi-currency card and want to control how you’re charged
Note: If you're shopping on Amazon.co.uk, prices are always shown in pounds sterling (GBP). Currency settings only apply when shopping on foreign Amazon sites.
How to Change Currency on Amazon Website (Desktop)
Go to the international version of Amazon you’re using (e.g. Amazon.com)
Scroll down to the bottom of the page
In the footer, look for the currency symbol (usually near language settings)
Click on it—it may say “$ - USD - U.S. Dollar”
In the popup, choose your preferred currency, e.g. GBP - British Pound
Save your changes
Amazon will now display product prices in your chosen currency—where supported.
How to Change Currency in the Amazon App
Open the Amazon app
Tap the menu icon (three lines) or go to Settings
Tap Country & Language
Choose your Amazon marketplace (e.g. Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk)
Then tap Currency
Select British Pound (GBP) or your preferred option
Save and exit
Prices on eligible products will now be shown in your selected currency.
Important Notes
Currency conversion only applies to display. You may still be charged in the local currency of the marketplace, depending on payment method.
If you're using Amazon Currency Converter during checkout, you can choose to be charged in GBP using Amazon’s own conversion rate—or opt for your card’s exchange rate.
Not all products or sellers support alternative currency display.
Tips for UK Shoppers
For best results, shop on Amazon.co.uk to avoid conversion confusion and import taxes
When using international sites, use a fee-free card like Revolut, Monzo or Wise to reduce costs
Compare prices across marketplaces but always factor in shipping, VAT and duty
